Why is the U.S. Administration against renewable energy?

By admin | Jul 1, 2008

During this election buildup, there has been a lot of grandstanding about renewable energy and the amount of power that will be put behind development of renewables in the future. However the current administration seems to be dead set against that very idea.

Time after time the administration of this country has struck down bills or programs for renewable energy but have show extreme favoritism to big oil. For instance, when the latest energy bill that would have extended credits to renewables went through the House, it was stalled because the representatives of the citizens who are being eaten alive by the price of oil didnt feel that it was right to tax the very entity that is costing the average American citizen a bigger portion of their paycheck. Apparently taxing big oil would be too much of a strain on their record breaking billion dollar profit of late.

Now the Bureau of Land Management has put a freeze on any new solar projects to be built. There is approx. 80 million acres set aside for big oil, that has not been developed or explored, but none at all for solar. And last week, oil asked for even more to be opened up in coastal regions around the U.S. when there is still so much land they haven’t explored that is already set aside for oil.

‘Green’ is the color…but its not because of the environment. I’m just guessing, but I would say that the reason for things like this, considering the administration is headed by a man from an oil family, has more to do with the almighty dollar than beauracracy.

I think that one of the biggest reasons for all of this foot dragging is the fear of decentralization. People powering and empowering themselves. I’ve often wondered what would happen if tomorrow, instantly everyone were solar powered at home, driving cars that were charged by their own home, how would that affect the government, their role, and their power.

Im betting they are thinking about that too.
