Solar Power in the Southwest

By admin | Apr 28, 2008

The Southwest of the United States is shaping up to be a huge area for solar power. Many new solar power plants are going up in the Southwest of the United States of varying sizes. Arizona, New Mexico, and Nevada provide the two things that solar plants need, sunlight, and space…and they provide plenty of both. Solar One and Solana are two of the big plants that have just started producing power in that area (technically Solana isn’t complete yet, but it’s coming).

Southern California is also getting in on the solar movement with SoCal Edison setting up a program to put solar panels on commercial roofs such as warehouse and factories, and use the remaining power to go to homes in the surrounding communities.

However it is the state of Missouri that has the distinction of having the very first town on completely renewable power.

As the prices of solar equipment come down, expect to see a wider spread of solar power users both big and small.
