Rock Port, Missouri is a small town along I-29 just North of Kansas City Missouri with a population of about

1300. Rock Port has the distinction of being the first town in the U.S. powered completely by renewable energy, more specifically, wind power. Not only is Rockport meeting all its power needs, its actually producing 23% more power than it really needs and is selling that power back to the power grid, creating income for the city while knocking out the power bills.
The power is supplied by Wind Capital Group’s Loess Hills facility which is located within the city limites of Rock Port and produces 16MHW, to supply the needs of Rock Ports 13Mhw demands. The excess power is purchased by Missouri Joint Municipal Electric Utility Commission (MJMEUC) for use elsewhere in the state and as part of the agreement MJMEUC will supply Rock Port with power when the wind generators just dont have the ability.
Hopefully this is a sign of better things to come!
