Solar Energy Becomes ‘Cool’

By admin | Feb 27, 2008

If you have never heard of Jack Johnson, you don’t know what you’re missing. Jack Johnson has a laid back bluesy sound that reflects the surfer nature of its creator. But what does thissleep through the static have to do with solar power? As it turns out Jack Johnson is also a all about recycling and alternative energy. So much so that his latest album Sleep Through the Static was recorded in his solar powered studio.

The studio is home to Jack Johnson’s recording company Brushfire Records and is a great blend of turn of the century design as well as current alternative power and recycling tech.

Skylights and windows keep the lights off most of the time at Brushfire. Solar panels provide power and shredded old jeans provide insulation. The Brushfire ‘offices’ also have low flow toilets AND they print CD covers on recycled paper. As an added touch, they are prodding their distributor to use soy based ink and shrink wrap that is bio-degradeable for all their CD’S.

Green music can be good. Give Johnson a listen!
