Wal-mart, in combination with SunEdison announced on Monday that the first of 4 locations in Hawaii to recieve solar power was completed. The system is reported to be 283 kw. SunEdison and Wal-Mart also report that they have an agreement to install solar installations in 22 other Wal-Mart and Sam’s club distribution centers on the Hawaiian Islands and California.
The Hawaiian Wal-Mart stores in Miliani, Pearl City and Kailua-Kona will all have similar systems installed later this year.
These systems should provide around 10% to 15% of the power for the store on which it is installed.
In 2006, Google announced the installation of a 1.6MW PV system at their Mountain View Camps, making them the largest solar installation of any corporate campus in the U.S. This system will produce about 30% of their energy requirements and annual savings of $393,000 + annually and CO2 emissions reduced by 3.6 million pounds/year (equivalent to 4.28 million car miles/year)
This installation beat out Microsoft’s 480kw installation, which was the largest corporate installation in Silicon Valley.
